As in “The Talented Mr.” Not “Believe It or Not” or “Alien”
At some point, probably during college, but even more so since then, I think, I started getting pretty good at putting together what works of fiction are about. Not, like, to an English Major level, probably (although I have my theories as to how much of that is ass-pulling), but the movie ended, and I immediately formulated a statement of what I thought it was about.
And to make this not entirely a post about how cool I am, I thought it was interesting that Tom was a really effective POV character. I felt really bad for him at times, and was saying, “Dammit, Tom.”(Which, with the proper names, is what I say when Our Heroes are doing stupid things). Which, given his actions throughout, is quite an accomplishment (And not just for Matt “good God is he amazing” Damon)
Also very, very much a book movie (as opposed to a play movie, or a “random idea from someone’s head” movie)
(this is movie 4)
